I was very fortunate to get into this race last second. Ran it in honor of my mom. I found out I was running in it about a week before so I decided it would be best for me to rest the whole week. I cut my push ups, sit ups, swimming, lifting, and running and really focused on recovery. My longest run going into this race was the Noble Canyon 50k, back in late September. Legs felt pretty good going into the race, I was just nervous that Noble was going to hurt my performance. I decided a decent goal would be to hold just under marathon pace, as I didn't know the course or how hilly it was. The first half of the race I was able to hold my 6th place position with out too much trouble. I decided on the way back that if I wanted to caught the guy about 30 seconds ahead of me then I had to pick up the pace. I started push a 6:30 pace, trying to close the distance. Finally caught up to the guy with about 2.5 miles left and blew by him. I pushed by him and increased the pace at the same time, trying to get a little lead on him. With about a mile to go, I lost him and continued to push the pace, as I could see the 4th place guy not too far ahead. Ended up crossing the finish line placing 5th overall and 1st in my age group. (0-19) I had such a great day and I'm so excited to get into marathon training next week. I also just got medically qualified for SEALs, so there's good news all around. I'm going to start getting back on here more. :) Average pace was 7:19.
